Street hockey sticks

Ball or puck in street hockey

The answer is simple – you can choose either option, so why not both? One thing is certain: a ball rolls more smoothly than a puck. Bauer or Base street hockey balls are designed to remain visible even in low light, making evening play much easier.

On the other hand, a street hockey puck or tile puck is a better choice if your goal is to improve stickhandling technique before the ice hockey season.

Use standard protective hockey equipment

Although street hockey is less physical than ice hockey and eliminates the risk associated with skate blades, proper protection is still essential. A helmet is mandatory, and you should also wear gloves, elbow pads, and shin guards. These are the same as in ice hockey, so there’s no need to buy new ones if you already own them.

Many players, however, prefer wearing a girdle instead of full hockey pants. It provides excellent protection for the hips, thighs, and tailbone while being lighter and more flexible than traditional ice hockey pants.

Street hockey for goalies

As a goaltender, you can use the same protective equipment as in ice hockey. However, if you play on asphalt, be aware that leg pads, catching gloves, and blockers wear out much faster than on ice.

For this reason, it’s often a good idea to use older gear for street hockey and save your best equipment for the ice season. Alternatively, you may consider investing in a simpler and more affordable goalie set designed specifically for street hockey.
